[Superior] Cotixan Mexican & Seafood, San Diego, CA (7 of 10)
There are several Cotixan restaurants in the San Diego area. There is some debate amongst friends and myself as to the inferior and superior. Truth be told, the food is really all about the same and most people would not know that there is a difference (or that 1 is referred to as “superior,” as this is just something between friends and myself). There is a reason, however, that this Cotixan’s gets crowned Superior to it’s neighbour: they will let you substitute hash browns to replace the fries in your California Burrito; the result is delicious.
Truth be told, the food at Cotixan’s isn’t amazing. The meat isn’t super tasty and the ingredients are just okay. They also have a tendency to not melt their cheese, humourously discussed in a Muir Quarterly (a UCSD student publication) article entitled “Cotixan’s, Melt Your Fucking Cheese.” Anyways, you eat at Cotixan’s for the amazing orange salsa, not the food itself. You could drown anything in that delicious sauce and it would be heavenly. In addition to the California Burrito, the adobada tacos and lunch burrito are particularly good.
For hash browns and amazing taco sauce, superior Cotixan’s has earned a 7 out of 10 on the Mexiscale.
*Note: “Superior” Cotixan’s is the one located at Genesee and Derrick Drive.
